How to Add Classic Editor Sections in Squarespace (Updated Location)

Classic Editor sections in Squarespace are still useful.

They just haven’t always been easy to find.

Squarespace is constantly moving things around inside the editor. Sometimes the updates feel unnecessary. Other times? They actually improve the workflow.

This is one of the good updates.

If you’ve been wondering where the Classic Editor sections went, or thought they were removed completely, they’re still there. And they’re easier to access now.

Let me walk you through exactly where to find them.

Why Use Classic Editor Sections in 2026?

Yes, Fluid Engine is Squarespace’s primary editor now.

But there are still situations where Classic Editor sections make sense:

  • You prefer the old stacking behavior

  • You want quicker layout structure

  • You’re editing an older site built in Classic

  • Certain layouts just feel simpler

Squarespace may encourage upgrading to Fluid Engine, but Classic sections are still fully functional.

How to Add a Classic Editor Section

Here’s the updated method:

Step 1: Enter Edit Mode

Open your page and click Edit.

Step 2: Click “Add Section”

Scroll to where you want the new section and click Add Section.

You’ll see all the Fluid Engine templates first.

Step 3: Click “Add Blank”

This is where the update comes in.

Previously, clicking “Add Blank” automatically inserted a Fluid Engine section.

Now, when you click Add Blank, you get two options:

  • Fluid Engine

  • Classic Editor

Simply choose Classic Editor, and the section is added instantly.

No digging. No hunting through menus.

How to Access Classic Editor Templates

If you want the pre-designed Classic templates instead of a blank section:

  1. Click Add Section

  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom

  3. Click Made with Classic Editor

You’ll see the full list of Classic Editor templates still available.

Squarespace didn’t remove them; they just tucked them neatly at the bottom.

What Changed (And Why It’s Better)

The biggest improvement?

You no longer have to search around or use workaround methods to insert a Classic section. The “Add Blank” option now gives you a clear choice.

For anyone still using Classic intentionally, this update makes the workflow smoother.

Wrapping Uphere

Classic Editor sections are still alive in Squarespace, and now they’re easier to find than before.

If you’ve been building sites for a while or managing older builds, this update is a welcome one.
